The list for songs to go 10+ weeks at #1 in the UK charts (including non-consecutive) is
I Believe by Frankie Laine (1953)
Cara Mia by David Whitfield with Mantovani and his Orchestra (1954)
Rose Marie by Slim Whitman (1955)
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams (1991)
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (1991, obviously released much earlier but hit 10 weeks after recharting following Freddie Mercury's death)
I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston (1992)
Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet (1994)
Umbrella by Rihanna ft Jay-Z (2007)
One Dance by Drake ft Wizkid and Kyla (2016)
Shape of You by Ed Sheeran (2017)
Despacito (Remix) by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft Justin Bieber (2017)
Dance Monkey by Tones & I (2019)
Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran (2021)
As It Was by Harry Styles (2022)
Flowers by Miley Cyrus (2023)

Thought it was an interesting comparison, always felt like it was much harder to stay at #1 for so long in the UK but in the last 7 years it's been done 7 times, compared to 8 times in the preceding 62 years

I Believe spent 18 non-consecutive weeks at #1, a record, but Bryan Adams held the #1 spot for 16 weeks consecutively, a record in that regard

I like the fact that you have put dates to music because that helps bring back memories and when they happened for me. Thank you for your work!

1:55 is actually "Candle in the Wind 1997", the version with new lyrics for Princess Diana including "Goodbye England's Rose" instead of "Goodbye Norma Jean". It is Elton's bestselling song of all time and undoubtedly charted at #1 for 14 weeks in 1997 because the world was mourning her passing. Elton says in his autobiography that he actually discontinued the sale of that record because he felt that the fanaticism over the tribute was disrespectful and he didn't want to profit off of her death.

fun fact: puff daddy did not secure legal approval for the sample of "every breathe you take" by the police before releasing the song 'i'll be missing you", and police songwriter, sting sued. receiving 100% of the song royalties, with payments reportedly going until 2053.

It is now less difficult to last longer on the top spot due to streaming. When streaming wasn't counted, one wouldn't buy the same single on CD/vinyl over and over.

There’s a good chance “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus will be added to this list soon (it’s currently at 8 weeks)

Crazy how many more there are in recent years compared to the past. Based on how much easier it is to find new music nowadays I would’ve expected the opposite.

Songs that were #1 on their Year End Charts:

Physical (1982)
End of the Road (1992)
I Will Always Love You (1993)
Macarena (1996)
Candle In The Wind (1997)
Yeah (2004)
We Belong Together (2005)
Irreplaceable (2007)
Low (2008)
Boom Boom Pow (2009)
Happy (2014)
Uptown Funk (2015)
Shape Of You (2017)
God's Plan (2018)
Old Town Road (2019)

Songs that were #1 for the Decade End Charts:

Physical (1980s)
One Sweet Day (1990s)
We Belong Together (2000s)
Uptown Funk (2010s)

Songs that were #2 on their Year End Chart but #1 from that year was not part of this video:

I Swear (1994, lost out to The Sign by Ace of Base)
The Boy Is Mine (1998, lost out to Too Close by Next)
Smooth (2000, lost out to Breathe by Faith Hill)
Foolish (2002, lost out to How You Remind Me by Nickelback)
Blurred Lines (2013, lost out to Thrift Shop by Macklemore)
As It Was (2022, lost out to Heat Waves by Glass Animals)

As of right now, the number one song of the 2020s is Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, and unless some other song comes around and dethrones what is literally the number one Billboard song of all time, then this will be the first decade where a song that had at least 10+ weeks at number one was NOT the song of the decade.
