Strong opinions, I actually love these older production when tones were so different from each other. Today we’re all listening to the same axe fx patch modeling a rectifier. Kinda. And yeah I’m triggered by pantera and slayer being on the list, so much that I actually said a dirty word in front of my wife. She responded: “Mats Ola Englund, you better shut that poop mouth”

Man did I cross the line there...

Cowboys and Justice were ground breaking tones in a sense that everyone wanted a Boogie or Solid State amp after hearing them.

That Type O Negative album is legendary because it has that weird ass huge tone.. totally makes the sound for the album.

Everyone's got their opinions, but I really miss the days when you you could recognize a band by their sound. (Almost) everybody nowadays seems to follow the same formula for guitar tone. Not that most modern metal tone is "bad, " it's just nobody's sound stands out. It's all a long blur. Say what you want about Dimebag's tone, but you'd be a liar if you didn't admit the first time you heard it (if you were around back then), you weren't like "whoa! Who is that guy? His guitar sounds insane!" A lot of people now like for the guitars to "sit nicely in the mix." Screw that. This is f*cking metal. The guitars should tear your face off. 🤘😊🤘

Better "bad" guitar tone with awesome songs than "great" guitar tone with weak songs. We get so much of the latter nowadays

I was typing my disapproval when I heard Dimebag's tone mentioned. Today heavy music lacks soul because of a cookie cutter format and loss of originality in a guitarist's tone. Producers have ruined heavy music me thinks.

AJFA hás one of the most iconic tones ever.
Today 99% bands are rectifierish tones. Everybody sounds the same.

The Bloodbath tone is a homage to the old school swedish Death Metal sound (Entombed, Dismember). It's just the Boss HM-2 doing its thing. The album was released in 2002, not the 90s.
