Ken Watanabe made this movie special. He should have received at least a nomination...for the lead role.

Katsumoto played by Ken Watanabe was the true star of the movie, the last samurai refers to all of the samurai together especially Katsumoto, notice at 0:42-0:43, he pronounced stories as "stolies"

Such a talented actor, in the London king and I he wasn't the best dancer or singer but had the audience in the palm of his hand with his charm, chrisma and superb acting. A movie and musical legend.

Many years ago, he came to a restaurant I used to work at in Vancouver, Canada. My boss said to me that "Hey! Ken Watanabe is here! He's calling for a waiter. You should go serve!" so I walked to his table thinking "Ken Watanabe... sounds familiar, but who was that again? I'm so bad at this..." I saw Ken and his friend having drinks and food already. Then, Ken just said "kaki" bluntly and quickly so I couldn't understand what he said. Plus, it was a super hectic loud restaurant. Then, he shouted "kaki!" again with an angry voice. His mean mug reminded me of yakuza. I was scared and confused! It took me 2 seconds to guess he wanted to order the Grilled Oyster with Mayonnaise. Gee.. don't be crabby. There was no "kaki" on the menu and kaki can be a persimmon! Well, now when ordering at a restaurant, I always read out or point at a menu saying "May I have please". Thanks Ken!

So weird that Ken became more popular Sanada because Sanada is the more badass actor. I guess Ken adapted to hollywood and learned english faster.
