I don't normally touch on the political arguments surrounding things. But I do want to make you aware of something. Someone made the comment, "Whoever greenlit this knew the hate it would get" and I agree with that. I said this story is funny, but I don't think it was "good" just meh, fun little backup. But this story didn't need to be good. They knew what would happen. Its called "Woke" marketing. The concept is you create something like this, regardless of it being a magical spell that creates a mud clone (Which if we want to spin that into a politcal thing, wouldnt that actually be against the idea of men having babies? I mean, the story literally says Men make mud, but thats a whole different talk), they knew it would be picked up and passed around. Angry people would drop the book, but other people would be interested and grab it. A book that pretty much was going under everyone's radar, is now on everyone's Love it or Hate it list, simply because they made a magic Mud Baby. Studies have shown the number of people who actually boycott something is quite low, on top of that, 70% of those that DID Boycott end up returning within 3 months. Then the rest o the people normally just trickle back eventually. Its the newest form of marketing, Outrage marketing. (If your curious why I knew this, I did a lot of research for a video we filmed on the podcast channel) So basically by you guys tweeting about it, making tiktoks and things like Fox News picking it up. People know this book exists now. People will buy it out of curiosity. Its why for years now I've been saying, if you truly want a comic canceled. Dont buy it, dont talk about it. It'll vanish and be gone.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on this truly bizzar WTF Comic. I feel like all 4 of these silver age stories were meant to get Outrage Marketing, but only this one worked.

It’s the fact all the news outlets are reporting this like it’s canon and not an elseworlds story is what discourages new readers and actively hurts the industry. Some strong marketing from Marvel or DC would fix the issue but they have non-existent marketing teams

The comic wasn't even controversial. Joker ended up eating magic mud. The only thing that was controversial is Joker looking like he was pregnant; that's all. I can't believe people freaked out over that.

Anyway, I agree. We need to know how to legitimately cancel something, but I also agree that The Man Who Stopped Laughing is golden and not the kind of thing that should be cancelled.

I saw the news and it just seemed so rediculous to me, I thought it was a joke until more people started talking about it. I never really checked it out until you talked about it because I was all like, "I gotta see what Comicstorian thinks about this, he reads quite the number of comics." Glad I didn't read into it. It really goes to show how the internet is structured when an Elseworlds out of continuity story is made to be some sort of “DC HAS GONE WOKE” ammo. Internet outlets highlight these things without context, and people who don’t read comics get all butt hurt about without even readying what’s actually going on, like how they responded to Tim Drake’s coming out or the Elseworlds Batman thing last year. Yes, marketing would definitely help, but the fact that the internet is just a place for people to say “Mid, trash, woke, cancel”, etc. really shows why the internet ain’t always as great as it could be. Thank god for people like you Benny who are the ones that go “Hold on, before you get angry, here’s what’s actually going on”
