JUSTIN: Although this video is a few years old, I have some important things to say about acrylic nail extensions that I hope a few may still see. First I want to say how much I appreciate you as a music teacher. Besides Andy of "Shutup & Play", you are one of the top great teachers on YouTube. I came to this particular video because, frankly, I was hoping to see some practical options for fake nails other than acrylic versions. I, too, have brittle nails that keep breaking. In my case, out of exasperation, I decided to to have some fake nails put on about 12-14 months ago . . . the same type of acrylic nail extensions as shown on your video. What I've loved about my acrylic nails is how easy, natural feeling and care-free picking had become. I've since learned, however, that the bad part of acrylic extensions (especially if continually "renewed") is that they can be detrimental to the health of your natural nail bed -- mainly softening and weakening nail outgrowth. So that others know -- it's recommended that you have your fake nails removed periodically to allow your natural nails to "breathe". I guess one of the unexpected benefits of COVID19 is that because I have not been able to have my acrylic nails "renewed" for over three months now, they have all fallen off -- hence my search for alternatives!

You may be completely used to them adding glossy top coat to your few nails when you get them done, but they don't have to. I'm a nail tech myself, and I just happened upon this video, and I think if they just buffed them slightly they would look more natural, or maybe a matte topcoat instead of a glossy one. I also do a service for men, it's usually for extreme biters, so it must look extremely natural, and I use a 4 sided buffing block to add a bit of shine and get all scratches out of the acrylic nails, or a matte top coat polish to have no shine at all depending on what they prefer. You may just want to mention it to the Vietnamese woman the next time you go, so you don't get weird looks at the pub with a pint, or with a cuppa somewhere.

Thanks for being man enough or better said human enough to tell people about your false nails. In my case I ate my nails so the sound of my fingers on the guitar is so different so doing this could be great for me and my guitar playing. I love finger picking.

I fingerpick 50% of the time...and especially, in the winter, my nails crack constantly! Thanks for helping out with this insightful vid!

I would wear a toilet seat on my head if it would help me to play guitar like you do. Thanks for all your help!

I like how you get them polished and done up, not just put on cut and done. Haha class

When I stumbled on this video on the page I honestly didn't expect myself to watch the whole thing.

I did.

Cheers for this video, as I get older my nails have got really brittle so can't use them for classical fingerstyle and pick/fingerstyle jazz so it's great to know that plastic nails are useable.

I will need this as my nails are now a disaster. In my 20's & 30's my right hand nails were strong enough for guitar but not now. Thanks for filming this Justin.

I shook hands with one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived - Sabicas - back in the eighties his right hand
finger nails were just covered with globs of glue - obviously not a pro job - but that was before it was somewhat customary for a few guitarists to get their nails done in salons

Thanks for "nailing" this down for all those who don't understand guitarists Justin! But whatever you do, don't start painting them because that would really confuse some folks!!! 😂😂😂 Thanks for all you do, it is greatly appreciated!!!

Back when I played every day, I would grow my right hand nails out and put on a nail strengthener (which was glossy) and I'd always see people giving me strange looks.. that takes some getting used to, but you do get over it
