I don’t blame people who were literally terrified by 1974’s ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and decided to ban it in the UK, it still one of my 15 most favorite horror/slasher movies of all time.

Monty Python’s Life of Brian was banned in my town by the local council, so everyone just went to the next town a mere eight miles away to see it!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my uncle’s favourite slasher movie, and when I watched it, I see why. The story mixed with the atmosphere and acting is downright terrifying.

Personally I don’t plan on seeing any of these movies listed here, but at the same time I’m glad they’re unbanned now so that other people can decide for themselves if they wanna watch them or not 👍🏻

I have this image on my head of the BBFC being ran by a bunch of stuffy, pipe-smoking Etonians who saw these movies and went "Well we can't be having that!".

The beauty of Chainsaw is it's pure terror. It really made you feel uncomfortable and made you FEEL the pain even with the lack of blood and gore. That is what, in my opinion, defines a great horror movie.

They should have added Pretty Baby 1978 which was banned in Canada.

I've actually got Freaks on DVD and it's a really good film.

For nearly 90 years, I never realize ‘Freaks’ was that offensive.

I was born in 74' and didn't see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre til spring of 1990 when I was 15... up til then everyone said it was a blood bath... then I saw it ( honestly no pun intended ) everyone lied and had not even seen it. Still love it... watch it once a year... even with almost no blood & no real gore.

What about banned children's tv show episodes that eventually unbanned?

I still find The Last House on the Left to be one of, if not the most disturbing movies I've ever seen.

I know a movie that was banned or heavily censored after it initially came out. Pretty Baby (1978), starring then 12 year old Brooke Shields. She is shown fully nude in multiple scenes during the movie. It can be found uncensored on DVD or on streaming services now.

Very surprised that A Serbian Film didn’t make this list.

NBK was amazing at the time of it's release almost 30 years ago. Disgusting and morbid, it was a genuinely shocking look at public media fascination. Now some networks dedicate their entire line-ups to it's genre.
