I did the same thing in the early 80's on a 71 datsun 240z. Rustoleum has made some great advancements since then and you do a better job than I did. Very nice. May I recommend two things? If A tractor supply store sells tractor paint in your color of choice, I would go with it. Tractor paint has a far higher solids content and you'd be very happy with it. Also, if you you want to be sure to avoid any spattering, fill a bucket with warmish/hot water and set your cans inside. It helps if you do it. You did a superb job, young friend. Keep prepping and painting!

I'm impressed that a rattle can paint job came out that nice! Good job!

Rattle cans get too much hate. While a good paint job might be better, some people can barely afford the cheapest Maaco has to offer (or even potentially cheaper places for that matter) so this goes to show it can be a very good option for someone on a budget. Much respect and great work on this.

Thank you so much!!! I was literally painting my '86 Cutlass Supreme with flat black cans. No one ever said, "if you paint when its too hot, you'll get lines." I'm in Las Vegas and It's over 100 Degrees. I did not know.

That's better than a basic Maaco paint job for sure for a fraction of the price.

I and some of my employees spent a few days sanding and rattle canning some cheap service vans a few years ago, that and some stenciled 'van id numbers' turned a parking lot of 30 year old vans into a professional looking fleet. Never underestimate the power of the rattle can :) Edit: a trick.. we painted when humidity was high, and it started sprinkling 20 minutes after finishing last van. End result, the paint looked AWESOME.. and I think it was because the humidity and the temp, about 70 degrees, slowed down the cure time a little making the paint not streak. We did a buddy's van on a dry day for fun, and it didn't turn out as well, but it was a dry hot day. Next time around I'll do two coats and then rattle can clear coat, and maybe set up sprinklers or something a ways away to increase humidity.

I got really drastically different results based on the weather. This summer when I used the Rusto spray cans in hot weather it just came out nasty, but when I sprayed it on some doors a week or two ago in 50F or so weather, it all leveled off beautifully. I hope we can get a couple good days where I have time so I can get the whole car rattle canned again, unfortunately I rolled a few sections and sanding that out will be fun :/. The rattlecans are just awesome if you do it in good conditions, though.

You can buff all that out after a week to smooth finish and apply clear coat !! makes finish look much better !!! Then buff out clear coat and polish it. Gonna look way better, like real car paint

Smoke Gray Paint, Gold Wheel Rims, and Darkened Glass all around. Yep it looks good!! Great Job, I love it. Glad to hear your buddy is happy with it to.

I am not generally a fan of hoopty rattle can rides but there was an attempt to prep the car at least. This was certainly the best financial way of making the car look better rather than spending money you might not have to paint a depreciating asset. Doing what you can with what you have should be more peoples mottos.

And it turned out decent. Overall I'm impressed. And I'm glad to see that ppe was used

I spray painted my 1961 Sunbeam Alpine with 13 cans of red Rustoleum spray paint from Kmart in my Dad's garage back in 1969, and have been laughed at for the last 50 years .... glad to see someone else appreciates a simple but tough home made paint job. (and back then, spray paint was only 59 cents a can !!) Later on, my second car was painted at Earl Scheib for only $29.95 .. and they did all the work. Simpler times.
