I raised a baby coon up until he was an adult. He was by far the coolest animal I've ever been around. He was so smart. He loved Girl scout shortbread cookies. He would go completely nuts for them. Once he got older and the females caught his attention it was over. He got a little mean so we took him to the national park and let him go. It was time. I did my part by giving him a shot at life. Now it was on him to live his life as a free raccoon. I never worried about him because he was huge and very smart. He was the biggest coon I've ever seen. Probably all those cookies. LOL.

People have no idea how hard it is on the rehabbers to say goodbye and not to worry about "Your babies" as they go out into the world. I know, first hand. I still worry and had to give up rehabbing 6 years ago. I miss the purrs and boop boop's they do. Sucking on your fingers is another favorite thing for them. It keeps them quiet when they are missing litter mates when there's only one. Enjoy your time with them! It ends sooner than you think.
