How Long Do Cats Stay In Heat?

If your cat is in heat, then in most cases, it will be in heat from anywhere between 24 hours until 48 hours of its ovulation. This is also only if the cat has not mated.

But if that is not the case, cats will be in "heat" for about seven days. This can also have a range of time anywhere from 2 to 19 days and can repeat as frequently as every two or three weeks.

2. ESTRUS: Lasting on average until about day 7. This stage does include behavioral changes. At this stage, the female cat also shows interest in a male cat and then could result in a pregnancy
3. INTERESTRUS: This period will occur when no ovulation has happened for the cat and can last about 13-18 days until the Proestrus phase begins again.
4. DIESTRUS: This means the female has ovulated due to the female cat mating with a male cat.
5. ANESTRUS: When a female cat does not have a cycle, then this may be caused by fewer daylight hours; however, this doesn't always apply to indoor cats because they may be exposed to more light indoors.

HERE ARE SOME FACTS ABOUT CATS IN HEAT. THE MORE YOU KNOW, THE BETTER PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAT

() The earliest cats may go into heat is around 4 months, the latest usually being about 12 months. But the most common is between six to nine months of age.
() Short hair breeds can typically start their cycle earlier, while on the opposite side, long-haired cats could not begin showing symptoms until18 months of age.
() Cats that are not pregnant can go into heat as often as every two or three weeks.
() Cats, unlike human women, do not shed the lining of their uterus, so if you notice any sort of bleeding or unusual moisture, you should contact your vet.
() If a cat does become impregnated, they could have kittens from multiple sires.

SOME SIGNS OF HEAT CAN BE:

() Rubbing, rolling or and increased affection
() Trying to escape or get outside
() Urine spraying or marking their territory
() Constant unusual loud vocalizing
() If they get in the mating position, where they place their hindquarters in the air showing they are receptive to males
() Grooming their private parts more frequently
() Loss of appetite may occur

TIPS AND TRICKS TO HELP YOUR CAT DURING THIS TIME:

() Give plenty of attention to your cat like brushing, petting, playing, and cuddling as your cat is going to be extra affectionate during this time.
() Keep your cat inside and away from any male cats that could get the female pregnant.
() Keep your house clean, the female may spray, and if she smells it, she may do it more.
() As well make sure to clean her litter tray a little extra as that may cause her to want to spray more too.
() To avoid pregnancy, you can get your cat spayed.
