Cy Porter is happy, he has a fulfilling life, plans for the future, and has never expressed thoughts of self-harm.

Remember that they only pay fines and settle lawsuits when they get caught - and they make bank on all those poorly built homes of unsuspecting buyers. The corner cutting is rampant in home construction because the profits are huge. Never buy a house without a qualified independent home inspection.

Cy you've nailed it. This can be said of so very many industries. Thanks for all you do ❤

This happens across all industries. A $10k to $100k fine is irrelevant to billion dollar companies. Which is why fines should be based on a business' revenue.

Cy should be a home builder, I'd buy one of his builds in a heartbeat. I stopped looking last year and appreciate my 1950s home a lot more.

I worked for an auto manufacturer a long time ago and this was their thinking also. Then imports that were built much better starting taking market share from them. Slowly they decided quality sold cars and the thinking changed. It needed to.

Cy got me looking at life in a whole different way.
Ever since I seen his videos I don't look at houses the same anymore.

Oh. Funny you would say it. I briefly worked for a cable company. They operated this way. The installers would get a few jobs QC checked each week. The installers would do poor work, quickly, to get more jobs done. The pay was based on performance. So, if you went fast on the jobs, cut corners on the hard parts, and risked that being one of the jobs you were QCed on you had a smaller chance that was a job that you were checked on. Each tech had the same number of jobs checked, so your percentages would go down the more you did. Your pay was based on the percentage of poor QC vs your overall number of jobs.

So, someone doing 100 jobs a week with 5 bad QC would be better off than sunshine who took their time, did 50 a week, and got 2 bad QCs. So, it was in the tech's best interest to cut the corners, do more jobs (paid by the job, so more pay), stay in a higher QC pay bracket, and get a few extra bad scores, than it was to take your time, have lower job counts, and fewer bad QCs.

Probably one of your best videos. So short, yet so informative.

I appreciate the clarity that you’re describing profit motive! I’ve seen too many weirdos who want to make it about convoluted, bigoted conspiracy theories when it’s just a love of money 🤑

The problem is, it's almost impossible to do your own build anymore, or to use your own contractor especially since these big corporations come in and buy huge swaths of land and put up a development full of hundreds of houses and lock, everybody else out.

I dealt with a semi-poor quality new construction home that I bought in 2008. The framing was built like a tank, but everything from drywall with paint-sealing instead of 1/16" to 1/8" compound layering to NO underlayments for flooring (like the sealing sheet under the hardwood to prevents noise and having to hear yourself walking) and mediocre insulation installation for flooring to tiling...all the finishings were thrown together. A leaky HVAC that was brand new. Those kind of issues- I fixed a lot of it myself, but most of it's still there for the people living there now.

I've never heard it put so well. Its up to the ppl. The public needs to come together in their communities and force the elected officials to make laws to hold these builders to better standards and to make the punishments so great, the builders wouldn't dare put in substandard work.

Cy is a happy guy that just wants quality for the people.

Big corporate know most people won't pursue litigation because of time and money.
Every time they get busted, it should rock their shareholders to the core.
Fire the corrupt players after you fine them and bankrupt them..
