I usually explain the negative sign by saying the work done by an external force to bring an object from infinity nearer to a planet will be a negative work because the planet will normally pull this object towards it by its gravitational force

The potential energy concept is a tricky one. But it is an important idea to simplify the system through classic mechanics to electric and magnetism. That makes me a lot of confuse till I see your video. It deserves the notes you make for everyone. Thank you.

The same derivation can be used with electric charges using Colombs law and realizing that the Ue can be positive when the charges repell. Good explanation.
