Should the Legion of Christ be shut down?

The #Legion of #Christ opened its General Chapter in #Rome on Jan. 20 in what was supposed to feature a new and repentant face of the congregation some 15 years after its founder, Marcial Maciel, was revealed to be serial paedophile and drug abuser. Instead, the chapter began amidst a tempest the disgraced founder actually created.

And this has left many wondering if anything has really changed in the Legion, despite undergoing a #Vatican-imposed "process of renewal".

Last week, the congregation announced #PopeFrancis has dismissed one of its members from the clerical state. #Fernando Martínez was convicted of raping little girls at a school in #Cancun (#Mexico) where he was stationed in the 1990s.
