100 % agree. 50 years of riding, 15 of which the bike was my only transportation. So, I'm not a beginner. I love the new entry level bikes because they meet my needs

Why is anything under 800cc a "beginner" bike in the US? What if you're and older rider and just want something more manageable?

As an owner of speed 400, I can attest to the fact that this baby feels premium and fun and yet it does the job of my daily commute, what more could you want

I did tested the 400 and the 400x. The fact that the 400x sitting position was so much more relaxing plus the look of the bike made me go foor the 400x. A wonderfull bike. Got it sinds march an did 6000km with it. It 's a winner!

I am far from an entry level rider. I'm 71 years old and have ridden motocycles since 1964. I've owned many motorcycles over the years, mostly Japanese models and four Harleys. At this point in my life I just want something to ride once in a while. So why would I want to speng $20, 000 plus on a Harley or an Indian when I can buy a TRIUMPH for $4995. I was looking at the Speed Twin 900 but with its five speed gearbox it revs pretty good at highway speeds and costs twice as much as the Speed 400. Of course the 900's exhaust note is fantastic whereas the 400 reminds me of a dirt bike or an enduro, maybe a dual sport.
When I do ride on the haghway where the speed limit is 70 npm I usually keep it between 60 and 65. So the Speed 400 will be perfect for me.
My wife used to ride with me but she is now crippled from battling cancer eight times and having 12 surgeries. If she were able to ride with me I would probably go for the Speed Twin 900, but since she can no longer ride with me the Speed 400 will be fine. My wife and I have ridden over 350, 000 miles on motocycles over the years, but cancer changes things.

At my age the light weight of the Speed 400 appeals to me. Easy to handle and easy to move around in the garage. As long as I don't ride two up, I think I will be fine. Plus I love the looks of the Speed 400 with the Triumph logo on the tank, the gold forks and the stainless exhuast sweeping down and then rearward.

I own it and it's my only bike. This takes me daily to my job. On weekends it takes me for small trails over the highways and the mountains. Does it all for me. 10 months and 5k kms clocked.

Great review Yam I've had my Speed 400 since May, love it and your'e findings are just about spot on. I'm 5 foot 10 and just over 12 stone (about 170 pounds) and I like it's riding position and size but I wouldn't go for a smaller bike. I'm 63 and been riding since the age of 17, started to find bikes that weigh around 235 kg and have over 100 hp much more than I need. I rarely ride on motorways so I don't need to sustain high speeds for long periods of time. I use it for commuting and riding around the twisties in the English Peak District near to where I live. Great channel by the way.

Thanks for the review Mr. Yammie. I'm a n62 yr. old newbie, three months in. My 400X is my first motorcycle. I'm loving my bike, but, being a novice, wasn't sure if my moto ignorance had me loving a substandard bike. So its great to see it received the blessing of the Yammie Noob. Keep up the good work. Love your videos.

Went to a Triumph demo ride today, they had the 400's. I rode everything else, and the 400 last, the 400 put the biggest grin on my face. I can't believe a 400 is so much fun to ride. Top speed was damn near 100mph. If you ever get a chance to do a Triumph demo ride, they are the best by far. No guides, they just hand you the bike and send you out alone. Wasn't very vibey at all, which I was surprised about. I don't see how Honda will ever sell another Grom or Kawasaki a z125 with these around. I didn't have any throttle issues. Such a fun bike.

Compared to the us, the price of the speed 400 here in India is around ₹2.8L which converts to around $3400 out the door
I just booked myself one yesterday, can’t wait to start riding this thing. Been using a rc390 as my main bike for quite a while now and I finally needed something that was comfortable enough good enough and didn’t break the bank

I started on a Honda Trail 90 in 1982. I have owned nearly 20 motorcyles since. My Speed 400 is my favorite, without question, and with the addition of a small windshield, has become my do-everything, go-anywhere companion.

Keep the speed at or slightly below legal speed and 400-500cc is all you need in any bike. Even in the US. Offroad. Adventure. Street. Cruiser. Touring. Sport...
Smaller bikes are cheaper to buy, to insure, to maintain, lighter to move around and safer (as you will be less tempted to go too fast or do something crazy).
The extra cc is a nice-to-have excess mostly present in a rich country.

I learned on a TU 250. I have much bigger bikes now but a small single cylinder bike really appeals to me. I think this bike would be a lot of fun.

I point everyone I know who is bike-curious to these little Triumphs. They’re the perfect street starter bike, but they’re enough bike to remain entertaining for experienced riders. Home run, Triumph. Harley-Davidson, take notes.

I've been daily driving a 1984 CB700 for a while now, and I think it's funny that so many modern bikes are starting to look more and more like it. Naked bikes are just the best.

I got laid off back in November when I just started saving for a bike. I was looking at a Triumph or the RE Hunter 350. This video might’ve convinced me to save up for the Speed. I’m still a long ways away (fuck this job market) but I’ll get there soon enough!
