I'm a big fan of eating food. I also happen to enjoy making food. So I like to keep an eye out for interesting kitchen utensils that are all natural and won't damage my cast iron seasoning. Recently while walking through a kitchen supply store I came across a unique-looking spatula. The shape was reminiscent of a paint brush, but the sharp tip and thick body meant the utensil could be used for normal cooking as well as scraping pans. Instead of buying theirs for $25, I came back to the shop to make my own.

Little did I know that making a $25 spatula would require $33k in woodworking tools!

Even though this was a joke it was actually refreshing to see someone unapologetically using premium tools and not making excuses or explaining other ways to do it. I do fine woodworking out of a cargo trailer with very limited tools but am still able to appreciate the pride that other people have in the tools they worked hard to earn. “I could make that spatula too if I had those tools!”

Love that you were able to reuse the bandsaw. That sure saved a lot of money, imagine if you had to buy a new one!

The best part: the wood was free. So perfect, Marc.

Everyone of our customers needs to see this.... the "real" costs of building.... love it!

I think Marc could have done it for a little cheaper by not sanding infront of the expensive fan and skipping the mini planer. Gotta think of your budget Marc!

Meanwhile there’s a guy in Indonesia who’s making those utensils for williams sonoma on equipment worth about $150. Respect to those woodworkers in developing countries

WOW!! I feel blessed! I made mine with a pocket knife, which was a gift from my Dad many years ago. PRICELESS!!

There's actually great lesson in here about volume production in relation to fixed cost and how friends don't understand why they can't get Restoration Hardware pieces as Target prices you're making it yourself...".

Love this video. I tell people all the time if they bought all the tools and equipment needed, they could make the items I sell much cheaper than what I sell them for. Great job!

This pretty much describes every one of my projects, though I do debate buying a $125 rasp. That seems excessive. 😁 Great video.

I've been making something similar for years as give aways. Darn, I didn't realise how much these were costing me....

I’ve never seen a more accurate video haha. I just built my kitchen and got premium custom cabinets “cheap”. Once I started adding up all the Festool in my shop all the sudden my kitchen doesn’t feel so cheap.

Love it. With the music I kept expecting a Snoopy appearance. Felt like a Peanuts montage.
