I personally like black cubes but it up to personal preference. I find black more pleasing to the eyes. As for contrast goes maybe a bit. But overall its up to what you like best.

I highly recommend getting the Shengshou Wind. It is a perfect cube for cubers who are averaging at your speed. The locking up issues is most likely caused by your Rubik's Brand not the way your turning, Rubik's brand 3x3 as we all know suck. haha. The Shengshou Wind doesnt really lock up so it will be perfect for you. Also one thing to note, you never want to turn super fast. That is the one bad habit you don't want to get into. :)

What do you recommend, black or white cubes? Does black give more contrast to the colors?

He most likely doesn't read Mandarin, however based on the pictures around it, and the usual information found on a cube, one can make an educated guess as to what it says. OR he actually reads Mandarin. lol
