Aaliyah originally recorded "Giving up" back in 2000s, "Giving up" was originally scheduled to be used in Whitney Houston’s movie “Sparkle” which Aaliyah was set to star in but due to her death the song was never put on the “sparkle” soundtrack and the movie was later on pushed back to 2012.

I saw in an interview with her formal pastor I believe that she had discussed with him about making a gospel album. At the time, I couldn't imagine the sound but being it was her I was sure it would be a treat. Now after hearing this I can hear the gospel in her sound.
