I love how their tipping point wasnt the poor care for the workers wants and needs, but that they didnt get table service.

No touch with reality, zero understating of the local culture, zero knowledge of the climate, it was a matter of time for things go completely wrong 😅😂

Some people believe that they can make a perfect society if they can mold the lives of other in their image and restrict the freedom for people to make their own choices.

It goes like this just about every time

Ah yes, I remember learning about Fordlandia years ago. The problem about the food is not just he served vegetarian food, but american food for people used to brazilian food.

Another huge problem that Fordlandia suffered from was trying to cultivate the trees to harvest rubber. These trees in nature have a wide array of fauna surrounding them, helping insulate from the spread of disease, however ford tried to grow the trees in perfect rows close together, thus allowing tree killing disease to spread; killing huge swaths of the "crop" as it were.

What is with American tycoons and trying to regulate and control every single aspect of the workers lives?

Bro I love hearing about Fordlândia and how it failed, the state I live in (Pará in Brazil) has many crazy historical events but that one is definitely the craziest. Now Fordlândia sits as a ghost town in the middle of the amazon, only being used by the government as parking space. I'd like to visit it one day, because it was really advanced for the period it was built, but now it sits abandoned, decaying as we speak. Pretty cool

Fun fact, the managers were able to escape because they knew the conditions sucked and they had a steam boat permanently at the ready for just such a revolt.

I read an article that talked about how horrible he was to the workers in the US. He'd inspect their homes and if it wasn't clean enough or if they had expensive items they were in trouble. He also reprimanded or fired workers who sent too much money to their families in the countries they came from. Dude was a toxic control freak.

Crazy story about Henry Ford. But he tried to purchase a coal mine in West Virginia and the railroad that connected it to his factory. Just that he could ensure the production of steel For his cars, but the railroad would not sell to him. He also pioneered many Business ventures in the upper peninsula like communities. That did forestry and produced wood as their only commodity The children in the schools were taught to make wood products and only wood products.
