Playing as Belgium I discovered the French were stealing thousands of resources through a single trade port in a colony I'd conquered off the British. I take the port back - French line crashes, revolution and uprising follow. C'est la vie

I did something similar to this as Italy. I developed ironclads in such a great quantity (and before anyone else), to the point where the AI literally never made their own. All I had to do then was embargo the British and they were completely helpless when I took Malta and Gibraltar from them, as they literally could not fight my navy.

The France surrender meme is getting extremely tiresome. It took all of Europe 35 years of warfare to bring down the French. Sure, they've had their defeats, but no more than any other country if you look at the stats. And to this day, the entire military vernacular is based in french terms. That should tell you how fearsome the French historically have been at the art of war.
