San Diego local here. Annual passholder The zoo is where I like to go to clear my head. 3-5 hours at a time and frequent visits are one needs to practice to get a chance of seeing the animals really active.

Not to be a stickler, but the snake you said was a Green Mamba was in fact a Gaboon Viper. It has the largest fangs of all venomous snakes. Cheers!

QUICK TIP FOR ANYONE HOPING TO SEE PANDAS AT THE SAN DIEGO ZOO!
The San Diego Zoo no longer has pandas due to the fact that the ones they had were rented to them by China for the purpose of breeding/conservation. Since the Zoo’s lease with China expired a year or two ago, all the pandas at the Zoo have been moved either to other Zoos or transported back to China.

I’d love to see a big endangered species carousel placed inside the San Diego Zoo just like the wildlife carousel that was featured at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and the big and newish endangered species carousel that was recently added at the San Antonio Zoo! The animals featured on the new endangered species carousel include gorillas, lions, tigers, pandas, elephants, and other animals!
