There is no need to convert each mixed number to an improper fraction. The above problem can be rewritten as
3 + 1/2 + 4 + 1/6 + 3 + 3/4 and grouped as
3+4+3 + 1/2 + 1/6 + 3/4 which is the same as
10 + (6+2+9)/12 = 10 + 17/12 or 10 + 1 + 5/12

Answer = 11 and 5/12
