The thing you guys aren't mentioning which has become a clear factor in the last few weeks is what does Aiyuk want? All indications seem like he WANTS to be a Steeler and has wanted to be a Steeler for a long time now

He's playing both sides as hard as he can to get the most money. Between the Browns and Steelers the Browns might be in a better spot right now, but one has consistently been in the playoffs almost every year and the other team is the browns.

If you are trying to fill the void creating by trading BA, then it’s a wash for both teams. Why do the trade?

I bet the frustration from season after season of being in serious contention and coming up short is getting to the Shanahan. The Rams pulled a "F the future" strategy and a couple of bad seasons may be worth the risk for finally getting that Lombardi. And with the salary cap there is usually a way to rework the contracts so you can still field a good roster even with highly paid talent.

Smart for 49ers to let Aiyuk “figure out” where he prefers to go and the money offered before matching. Hence 49ers do not have to pay the >$30M per year that Patriots and Browns have reportedly offered which Aiyuk ultimately declined.
