I have always thought that monk was so badass. Honoring his traditions one last time and seemingly remaining totally calm in the face of sure death of himself and eveyone else down the valley

Can you imagine that every monk before him spent their entire lives waiting for this to happen. They knew it was going to happen for milleniums, and that was his only purpose for his life time was to ring the bell to give them a few extra minutes. That takes a lot of humility.

Imagine how huge and terrifying it would be to see a wave crashing through a huge mountain like Mount Everest. It's definitely something apocalyptic.

You really will not see this every day, but I'm glad he calmy accepted his fate and appreciated his kind with the bell.

He knew he wasn't gonna make it instead of running he stayed calm and gave a warning to his people and he will be the most calm person in the movie.

The fact the tsunami is higher than most mountains in Himalaya is terrifying 😭🙏

This scene always causes me a sense of sheer terror. Walls of water terrify me and are physically difficult to focus on. Yet, addictive to watch.

Astronaut on the international space station peacefully enjoying his coffee when suddenly he sees a massive chunk of water approaching the station.
Astronaut: That can't be possible!
Tsunami: Oh, we just want to make sure everyone else is dead so you know what that means. 😅

I think the scariest part about tsunami is that you see clouds being pushed out of the way by the sheer volume of water, that shit is terrifying.

Many did not understand the meaning of this scene. For true Buddhists (especially Buddhist monks), the goal of life is to achieve nirvana, through long meditation, humility, etc. This old monk was not saved because, apparently, he spent most of his life in spiritual quest and by the time the apocalypse began he already felt that he could achieve nirvana, so he was not afraid of physical death (he even spent his last moments in peaceful meditation). He sent his young student to the ship because he understood that he was only at the beginning of his spiritual path and his physical death now would only bring him harm.

I'm imagine him holding up a tiny umbrella.
