Ingrown toenails are a common condition in which the corner or side of a toenail begins to grow into the soft tissue around it. The result is pain, inflamed skin, swelling, and, sometimes, an infection.
There are many causes for ingrown nails, but the two most common causes are Wearing shoes that constrict the toes and improperly trimmed nails
To help prevent an ingrown toenail:
Soak your foot in warm, soapy water. And Try a toe brace or tape.
Trim your toenails straight across.
Keep toenails at a moderate length.
don’t Wear shoes that place too much pressure on your toes
If you have diabetes, check your feet daily for signs of ingrown toenails or other foot problems.
Surgical removal of an ingrown nail involves removing a small portion of the side of the nail and destroying the nail bed beneath. The toe is injected with numbing medicine, and the toenail is cut to create a new, straight nail edge. Antibiotic ointment will be applied to the toe immediately after the procedure. You should continue to apply the antibiotic ointment until the wound is completely healed.
You should keep rest for the day after surgery; the next day, you can return to work but You should refrain from vigorous exercise for 2 weeks after the surgery

Had this done 4 fn times... at one point I was walking around with fractured teeth from cavities and 2 infected toes which needed this done. You can imagine the mental stress. This happened in my teenage years. My teeth were so bad I'd have a mouth full of blood just from trying to clean them, my toes were constantly oozing and causing a horrendous smell. I had such relief after fixing it all but I'll never forget the suffering I endured and the amazing surgeons who removed my ingrown toenails or my busted teeth.

I have gotten this done 2 times, surprisingly pain level was a 0 out of 10 as I was awake during the surgery. Only thing that sucked was having to get a few needles which were a little painful, but to where near as painful as it was walking around with an infected ingrown toenail.

When I was about 20, I had to perform self-surgery to fix my ingrown toenails. I mean, it was easy enough to simply sterilize the area and "implements", then clip the offending part of the nail away. The trouble was zero anesthesia. Just touching it hurt so bad...nevermind actually digging at it and working on it. However, the pain crescendoed and kind of just became the new "normal" so I could work through it. The operation only took a couple minutes and I felt instantly better. Woulda been a piece of cake if I could have shot myself up with a bit of lidocaine first.

As someone who recently had this surgery. Their are multiple variations of this surgery so don’t expect it to be like this. It being red is normal, but if there are liquids like puss coming out of it it’s probably infected. The needle used to numb the area is very painful but don’t squirm it’ll make it worse usually after the second shot you can’t feel anything anymore. Bring Tylenol extra to strength or Advil because the effects of the needle where off very fast and it’s going HURT the needle does aswell. Also you won’t see immediate results it’ll still be red after and it’ll still be sensitive so let it heal and it’ll go back to normal. If it doesn’t go back to your doctor. Lastly. I recommend wearing flip flops and crocs in the time after the procedure around 1-2 weeks because closed shoes can make the surrounding area more sensitive and prone to bleeding. I had ingrown nail treatment for both of my toes. They injected some injections and then removed my entire toe nails. It was a painful experience 😣 but after treatment my toe nails are again growing inside my skin. I don't want to do the same treatment again. What should I do???

I tried the warm water method or even using a device to straighten the toe nails back, but that's only delay the inevitable. The best course of action is to see a Foot Specialist like The Toe Bro, he'll cut ingrown toenails and then use acid to kill the cells to ensure the sides don't grow back
