Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have agreed to a 10 September debate on ABC, the network says, setting up the first showdown between the candidates.

Former US President Donald Trump held a rare news conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump said he wants to debate Harris multiple times, and he had agreed to three dates in September.

There are a few needed rules that have been incredulously missing from previous debates: 1) Microphones get cut off at the exact expiration of the stated time limit. 2) Only the microphone of the designated speaker will be live. 3) No live audience. 4) Moderators will be academics experienced in managing debates. No news readers. 5) Speakers stay at their podium. No wandering around behind your opponent's back while they are speaking. 6) Fact checkers will call out disinformation.
