The bike leg of an Ironman represents more than 50% of the whole triathlon, and so an athlete’s setup and equipment is hugely influential in their entire race. Mark and Fraser break down the triathlon bikes and equipment of the male and female podiums from the Kona Ironman world championships.

Was it their kit or their training that lead them to the podium? Let us know in the comments below

wheel manufacturers will tell you the most aero tyre for the wheel. FFWD told me 23 mm is more aero than the 25 mm, but you need to be going fast (50 km/hr plus) to see the benefit over rolling resistance. Victor Campaenarts is on record as saying they only use the 23 mm in team time trials where average speed in 50-60 km/hr, solo tt they use the 25 mm.

Just for the record... Anne Haug used a Verve Infocrank (and not Power2Max) back in 2018 and during her victory in 2019.

Why no comment about the bike of David Mcnamee?

I'm surprised at the crank lengths.... there's been a lot of forums saying shorter cranks (165) help the run and aero. However Ryf and Charles both on 170-172.5 and the men on 170-172.5 for tall riders. Lange is tall and 170 which I would expect shorter riders on 165?

Why don’t we see a lot of Merida TT or felt IA bikes used by the pros?

Why is Lucy Charles using the xlab torpedo aero bottle? I thought the shiv had a hydration system built into that huge fin on the back

all this emphasis on aero, why not use velomobiles or recumbents? is it not allowed?

I cringe every time Mark says Bow-Li-day....it's "Boh-Lee-Deh" Short O, short E at the end.
