At the heart of 2,000 hectares of lush forest, discover Inhotim, a remarkable garden where the opulence of the art is matched by Brazil’s natural landscape. In the 1980s, a wealthy entrepreneur, Bernardo Paz, saved these humid hills from ore mining and opened the largest open-air museum in Latin America. Since then, more artwork has been added, from the discreet to the wacky, among the foliage.

There is no starting point, no marked-off path: here, visitors are invited to lose themselves to contemplation. From the bulbous trunks of ponytail palms to sculptural, undulating octopus agaves, the vegetation rubs shoulders with the exuberant works of renowned artists such as Giuseppe Penone and Tunga. Where nature meets art: Inhotim begins a new dialogue between the environment and creative pursuit.

As Bernardo Paz says at the end, there is nothing bad to be said about Inhotim, it's a beautiful project. However, I hope people see that he is no hero nor is this a social welfare project. Bernardo himself seems to understand this. Inhotim is a rich man's whim. A way for him to feel better about what he did. He could have just as easily decided to use his billions for something much less beneficial. We were just lucky this man had more positive plans. Truly admirable, would have been sacrificing the potential billions to keep the area from being deforested and mined in the first place. "Deforestation is a crime, it shouldn't exist".
