Sometimes organizations are slow to change because they don't want to admit that the advice they gave in the past may have been drastically wrong.

Glad that at least the American Diabetes Association seems to be going in the right direction.

They act like LCHF, which is how our ancestors ate for millenia, might not be safe!
They recommend a ton of fruits, grains, veg. In other words, a ton of sugars! And PUFAs. Genius.

"...based on opinion, not on robust science" -- they're effectively describing standard dietary guidelines.

Don't you know that LCHF is extremely dangerous.... To their profits.

Yes... sadly still a long way to go.... I liked the American Heart Association of old that endorsed Kellogg's Pop Tarts and sugary kid cereal as a heart-healthy breakfast... now try to find any trace of this endorsement! They hide their embarrassed endorsements on the web so we can't find them, but those that grew up here in the U.S. remember, because that's why we purchased them!!! Including that whole pile of rubbish: reduction in saturated fats, so load up the Transfats and margarine... Heart Healthy Low Fat diet foods with fake sugars... "Snackwells" yeah... I am still pretty spitting mad about it!!!

One's own research is necessary in the UK. I did that and then followed LCHF. Put myself into remission from T2D. Result! Then returned to the doctor and told her what i eat. She had a fit and told me to stop eating this quantity of fat. Gulp.

I do wonder if these organizations will eventually be crushed under the weight of class action lawsuits when it becomes absolutely obvious they that dragged their feet for decades in updating their guidelines and continued to propagate damaging and out-dated dietary guidelines. How many people will have to die before they will own up to their mistake.

Things are changing slowly. People have right to choose low carbohydrate eating. People with diabetes deserve normal blood glucose levels.

Thanks Peter. While depressing, it’s important to listen to their opposing arguments. These specific barriers will inevitably be breached by the weight off evidence.

At a time when the three countries considered have record and increasing co-morbidities of cancer, heart disease and diabetes the established health stakeholders have obviously failed their populations.

I don’t need doctors, scientists or dietitians to tell me that my low carbohydrate way of life is healthful for me. I can tell it by by laboratory blood markers, my personal blood glucose meter readings and my improved overall well being. No brainer.

I suppose that your final slide was of the Eyre highway, indicating that there was a long, lonely, dangerous road ahead. And, unfortunately, it seems that way.

Not all of these organizations are "official" in any sense. Some at least are private charities, some funded by corporate interests.

What is not clear in all of everyone's recommendations is that it is essential to understand what parameters a diet works. Within the American food industry they assume 3800Kcal. Normal is usually 2000/2500. It is sometimes said 1800Kcal is better. Now every diet or eating habit has a completely different impact within these parameters. For example, saturated fats are processed 100% 'healthy' in a non-Insulin Resistant person with an 1800Kcal diet and unhealthy at 2500Kcal plus. Then there are factors of sports and nutritional balance. The recommendations fall far short for such a major health dilemma.

There is little profit for the Big industrial conglomerates in good Health or proper Nutrition.

The usual influencers with ‘very deep pockets’ - grain processors & big pharma. I note that grains are always included in these diets & whether or not they are ‘whole’ they are still processed by modern methods. Are these ‘modern’ methods even looked at by any food or dietitian authorities? Are they really good for you without causing harm? It is always about ‘the money’.
