My German mother once she moved here to the USA and got married, started baking for her family. Quickly she developed a way to improve the American recipes: halve the sugar.

Almost every recipe for cookies or cake worked just as well with half the sugar and tasted fine. I wonder if commercial recipes could copy that...

I find it not only incredible but criminally negligent that medical schools do not teach nutrition.

I've given a couple of videos of Peter's talks to workmates of mine so I'm looking forward to seeing and supporting this campaign to cut sugar.
The only thing I would have to disagree with is pressure to put a tax on sugar. I work for a large hardware chain earning award wages and I can tell you now that a sugar tax will not make my peers easier to get along with. Why can't we put a tax on the advertising or sponsorship deals involving added sugar products? Two birds with one stone. Its hard enough to get the average person to even look at the facts of nutrition with all the advertising that's going on. Focusing on reducing the effects of marketing strategies by sugar pushers is more effective than screwing the little guy with another tax which would of course be countered with an increase in the marketing of added sugar products. We should also be aware by now that every new tax is an opportunity for corrupt people to partake in criminal activity for financial gain. A black market in sugary products may seem far fetched but all it takes is a modest profit/risk ratio before its considered by your average crim.

I must have been living under a rock. I am very aware of cutting sugar but I never noticed the campaign.

One of the interesting statistics Dr Brukner gives is that the highest consumers
of sugar in Australia are teenage boys. Makes me ponder whether there's
any correlation between that and the skyrocketing suicide rates among
young men in our country?

No big government taxing sugar (authoritarian from the left tor right is always a bad idea), they just need to tell the truth about sugar clearly and let people choose. We LCHF people DO NOT want to become the CSPI.

20:26 63.4% of aussie adults being overweight/obese seems a bit unrealistic, the problem may be with the definition?

Totally disagree with their approach. Inform people, yes. Taxing, hiding from view, banning and all that bully state stuff, NO. Let every single issue group like this one have their way and pretty much every food product will be treated and look like a pack of cigarettes.
