Those PS2 ports actually have lower latency than USB. They did become hot pluggable in the later stages of their use.

If i recall, they also can register movement/key presses faster than USB making them better for gaming as well

Us, IT workers, use them all the time. Dedicated KB and mouse inputs, and when shit hits the fan, these and the VGA ports are the ones who stay and work 100% of the time.

Ah, the old days.... my first home PC was a 486DX2 66MHz with like 2 MB of RAM. Though my mom did bring home a work computer before that one that was so old it still used a monochrome monitor. Good times!

Worth noting, the unplug thing wasn't a thing for very long. By the time most home PCs had switched over from using serial ports, you could unplug your keyboard and plug it back in without issue.

As also a fun fact, these are better than USB for keyboard, they register key pressing parallely instead of serially so they receive the input faster than USB reducing latency by a lot
