Exactly so!! I do this every time in the indoor arena when we are alone in there. We have killer pigeons in there who are known for eating not only ponies, but horses as well.

I used to do it this! It was those deer that would leap out & my big mare would jump sideways. I would defy gravity hanging on!!!

my 3 year old mare is amazing with small animals jumping out around her feet, rabbits constantly run out of bushes and not a thing scares her.

The thing is: Horses where very small back in the days, and had a lot of predators. Now they weight up to a ton and nobody wants to mess With them but haven't noticed.

We did this once while riding in the woods, because we had seen a huge deer down the path. We were yelling and singing etc. to scare any potential deers away for about 5 minutes and I think it's safe to say that the horses had lost any faith in our sanity afterwards, but it worked 😂

Yes! This is exactly what we do here when there are/we suspect there are moose, wolves, bobcats or wild boars nearby. Scare them away before they get the chance to scare our horses

Today I was putting things into my muck heap (it has some grass growing atm it’s not too big) and I kid you not a pheasant goes flying like 1-2 metres away from me, it took my like 2 minutes to calm down
