Reynad told me they wouldn't do this, I gave him 30 dollars, and then he did it anyway. Everything else around the topic is completely irrelevant.

People having different pools of items is lame. People having different pools of items because some paid and some didn't is beyond lame.

You can't compare your gem acquisition to the average players when this game is quite literally your job. Most people can't sit down and play a video game for eight hours a day.

My main problem with the current business model with the card expansions that you can disable is that for a while Reynad had been promising that the game would be more fun because there would be so many cards in the pool that players would never be able to force builds. And I agree with that design idea.

But with this model, you basically allow players to customize their item pool in such a way that in order to optimize your performance you are incentivized to DECREASE the amount of cards in the pool. Making forcing builds easier and the game more boring for you and everyone else. You could just choose the expansion that has the best cards for the current meta and disable all the other ones. And you know there's going to be websites categorizing the best expansions for the current patch and people will optimize the fun out of the game.

No, sorry man you're out to lunch on this one. There were explicit statements about not doing this stuff that motivated people to buy in which have now been broken. No trust = no game for me

For more personal reasons. I was hoping that the game would have an ever growing item pool so that you had to think on the fly. Instead of being able to pretty easily force the same couple builds over and over. Where now it seems like it'll more you're able to pick a couple packs to add 10-20 items into your pool

I think my biggest problem is that anytime an expac has a standout card that either dominates or just does really well in the meta, you've got a P2W moment. I don't think time and number of expacs will change that in the future.

This all sounds neat when you accumilated 43 tickets and 23625 gems. If you install this game as a new player you start with 0 on everything.

My experience after my first game:
1. Starts game, forced into normal mode.
2. I got 10 wins (maybe I was lucky or the first game is against bots? I don't know)
3. Realized I got absolutely nothing out of nearly a full hour of playing. (apart from a tiny bit of daily quest progress)
4. Game taunts me with "If you had played ranked you would have gotten all of these chests"
5. Me: Ok fine, I'll play ranked. *realizes ranked is locked behind tickets*
6. Tries to find out how to get tickets for free, but mostly stumbles onto all kinds of subscriptions, passes and expansions.
7. Realizes it would take quite some grinding to only get 2 tickets.
8. Uninstalls game.

I think most people who are complaining also really like The Bazaar and want to keep playing it in the future. If anything, that's probably their reason for complaining, to get Tempo to change the things that might prevent them from wanting to continue playing.

+ promise your players that there will be no paid items/advantages in the game

+ put new items into 10$ subscription battlepass which can't be obtained by any other way

+ even if you pay 10$ monthly, make your players grind 25 level of that battlepass to unlock the best items (or alternatively pay an additional 100$)

+ you need to pay ingame currency to play ranked (this was messed up from the beginning)

+ remove daily ranked tickets that lets you play the ranked mode once every day

+ remove casual mode rewards entirely let alone adding some more incentives to play that mode

+ ban or mute your "grand founder" supporters for critisizing the changes on your discord

+ insult your players by labeling them such as "redditors" (whatever that means)

= profit

I think more of the issue is the constant reiterating by reynad and the team that you will only pay for cosmetics. Even as recently as a month ago.

Plus Reynad being nasty to people and people getting banned from the discord for criticizing the new system. Even when they're being polite and reasonable

Just feels like an bit of a bait and switch

You play 8 to 12 hours a day. You cannot compare your gem acquisition to the average player.

I don't mind the monetization, but i mainly worry that the meta in a year is gonna be "go into the game with a build in mind, and pick expansions to force that". I want new cards to be forced to be used, not a choice

I think this is such a lukewarm take that it borders on unhelpful. It's the same as going "well, as this restaurants menu expands, so too will the abilities of the chefs that work there"

Like yeah? That isn't the problem present. The problem is that the restaurant was sold as a soup kitchen, not fine dining.
We were told that the meal would be free but then all of the add-ons would cost extra, but said add-ons would never affect the quality of the dish itself. Now we're being told that if we want the meal we were promised, it will cost $10 every month. People were sold on false expectations, and now the rug has been pulled from under everyone's feet at the last possible second.
To claim that this monetization is fine is uninformed at best and bootlicking at worst.

There are multiple problems going on right now:
1. They didn't communicate this well at all. And it comes off as contradictory to what they've said in the past;
2. Kripp makes a fantastic point about how this will feel LESS BAD over time - but that could be 6, 12, 24 months down the road;
3. Their response - mostly Reynad - has been so deranged, childish and unprofessional;
4. It didn't need to be this way - they didn't need to lock the cards behind a pay wall that you can only overcome by paying money. Why should free to play players have to wait a month before buying the expansions with gems?
5. I actually think the ranked ticket changes are fantastic. It will feel better for +90% of players. That is being overshadowed by the expansion stuff.
6. Just because I can afford to play with the new cards, doesn't mean I want to when F2P players cannot, or decide not to play with them. I don't want an advantage just because I can afford to play with the new cards.

If a game is fun and you spend a lot of time on it, you should pay the company that made it. Pretty simple. I just don't think they are going about this the right way and the unprofessional response is making me consider not playing.

A $10 pass that lasts 2 or 3 months seems to be what I would consider fair. 10 a month is high then to even consider asking for 20 a month for the subbed version seems like a slap in the face.

I can play a meta deck or two in hearthstone completely f2p in each expansion. I play tft entirely f2p without ever needing to spend a cent.

$10 a month seems absurd when compared to what $10 a month gets you in something like OSRS. The biggest issue is the inconsistency in what Reynad has communicated and then ended up delivering. Especially when you consider purchasing power of $10 usd across different regions and there not being regional prices.

Packs would be terrible even if they were free because they're antithetical to the drafting experience. As you point out, the packs don't support all strategies equally, so eventually you will be able to increase consistency by enabling the 2-3 packs that provide overpowered items for some archetype (like aquatic), thereby skewing your draft pool towards whatever is strongest in the present patch.

You mention you cut Reynad some slack since he invested his own money in development. Wouldn't the same logic apply to players who have paid money to fund beta development who were given promises that the game would never give gameplay advantages for money?

Reynads actions following the complete 180 on p2w, lack of accountability. Attacking his own community was the last straw.
I uninstalled and told my friends who were waiting for open beta to not bother.

way to kill his own game with greed.

Edit: I bought both characters with real money no gems. My issue isn't in spending money because if a game is good and not p2w I have no issue spending money on it. As I've done with many free games in the past.

@Kripparrian
Are you ok with Reynad insulting his customers and lying to them for four years about their monetization plan?
