I love this but people assume because their “low maintenance” animals that means little care. These babes can live for up to 20 years so please provide correct housing, time, and care for them!! They’re amazing ❤️ also if you don’t have live plants you do not need lighting for them they can have natural light from outside you don’t need to bake or blind your geckos all day. I recommend mini thermostats w humidity, lots of foliage and climbing space + Pangea w insects to start! Hope this helps (: 🦎

Ack they're so cute. I love their footsies. Also I have a BUNCH of dubia spiders for my tarantulas so the lack of insects won't be an issue for a while

Insects are recommended for nutritional health and i would say child friendly with limits, they are somewhat small and shouldnt be handled my children without close supervision

Little Billy will be so surprised when he's holding a crested gecko and suddenly there's a squirming tail in his palm!

make sure to be gentle with them tho, they are small and a kid could seriously injure it-
also their tails drop but other than that yeah they are good pets

For sure, a great beginner reptile! Mine was an F2 female albino reticulated python...didn't get any other snakes for years. Took a lot of work, time, and energy. Also back in the late 2002 when I got her, there wasn't as much great info as today.
Now I have tarantulas, centipedes, ball pythons, leopard geckos, bearded dragons, corn snakes, burmese pythons, crested geckos, leachies, carpet pythons, and I have more retics than anything lol
It also helps to live in the ghetto and all your neighbors houses got torn down, so the only person to have 2 acres of land in the ghetto city boundaries lol

I have a crested geko! And he does NOT require low maintenance he is a lot to take care of and a lot of money I was able to get him for free because he was at a pet smart and his enclosure was too small! His terrarium costed a lot and you have to switch out their floor(whatever you use for the bottom of the cage) once a week or two he is a lot to take care of but he is very sweet and loves to jump around! Also they can live up to 30 or 20 years

I have had a couple of crested deaths. I have never lost a leopard death. Crested geckoes require more attention than a leopard gecko. Misting, temperature control their food attracts bugs, they poop on the glass. Leopards poop in 1 place, they can eat prepared food also, room temperature is fine for them and there isn't and poop on the glass.

when you just got a brand new pet gecko, make sure not to frighten it too much, once it loses its tail its wont grow back, and they do bite sometimes… Well, thats what mine does. Do not try to force it to go on your hand or it wont trust you much, instead, wait a little like about a week or two to let it get used to its surroundings. Also, its not very easy to hand them, they have to trust you first, if you just got a new crested gecko, please pay attention to these things that may do something to your crested gecko.

If you live in a cooler place like the UK they do still need UVB and heat. Even here i was told they didn't need additional heat, and my house is cold in the winter. My previous crestie died from suspected MBD because she had no D3. They need UVB light. If not, provide D3 calcium supplements in their food, cause for some reason the "complete diet" doesn't contain it.

But yes crested geckos are my favorite type of geckos and I got mine almost 2 years ago and she's a goofy sassy little dragon, great personality

I think ball pythons are an easy beginner reptile as well they don’t bite unless under extreme stress and or if your hand smells like food, and when they’re adults they only feed like once every one to two weeks, and they don’t need any specific lighting requirements, heating mat is required though, only draw back is if your squeamish about feeding even frozen rats and mice it might not be the best choice for you, or if you’re squeamish about being accidentally bitten, when I had one I never got bitten because I tong fed his mice and I would wash my hands often

I have a fancy crested he was a baby when I got him still in that stage. Notice he has a fused toe on his back foot. But he still jumps around fine. He eats crickets here and there mostly the paste though. I try and keep him warm with light but not to warm
