In the scene Chas has just been thrown into the ceiling by an invisible force. John Constantine creates an invocation using the Alchemical " Red King "  symbol tattooed on his arms to 'make that which is invisible visible' so the symbol refers to this as bringing the shadow "fully into the light" Gabriel was the hiding as the shadow, john wanted to scan the room to see who was the helper or the demon ( mammon ) and end it up being Gabriel, that's why Gabriel says " Your ego is astounding."

One of the most underrated movies. This is my favorite scene by far. Topped off by the pettiness of the Lucifer to save his life because he knew his sacrifice gave him salvation. So he saved his life so he could mess up again. Chefs kiss

That first shot is so cool. The pan around while he cuffs his sleeves. The camera anchoring on him with the long hallway in the background. The way the darkness consumes the room.

I always thought he was summoning some op evil entity with that tattoo and was just interrupted by Gabriel. The spell just looks too badass to just be undoing some invisibility.

I dont know if anyone ever noticed but the shot at 0:32 when gabriel comes down and has constantine underfoot is exactly like the paintings and sculptures of archangel Micheal with satan under foot. Nice little homage.

I always used to think he was trying to summon satan here but what hes actually doing is much cooler, it's basically a spell that forces gabriel to show herself. If it works on an angel it probably works on anything.
