Pulsar Fusion, a UK-based company, is pioneering clean space propulsion systems. Their Direct Fusion Drive (DFD) uses a fusion reaction to generate heat, ionizing gas for propulsion. Despite challenges in controlling hot magnetic plasma, the team is making strides towards an efficient, fuel-efficient engine.

The DFD could accelerate propellant gas up to 1,000 times faster than existing ion thrusters, potentially reducing travel times to Mars and beyond. Pulsar Fusion plans a full rocket test in 2027, marking a significant milestone in the development of nuclear fusion engines.

Iam confused, dosent plasma spew out terrific amounts of gamma, xrays and neutrons, i would get a fusion reactor on Erth that dosent require mass limits because you will need radiation shielding and large radiators

Will be a long time before fusion becomes usable sinnce it requires more energy input for the reaction to tske place than useful energh output

My idea was to use a nuclear reactor to power an ion engine

Might as well put a fison reactor on top to power the fusion core, ten times the speed at lower coast 😁

Nuclear fusion hasn’t been properly developed yet lmao. Ngl I think we need to develop it before we consider making a rocket engine with it
