One of the most powerful scences in cinema history.
When Joker painted that blood smile I along with the whole theater gasp in awe of the impact! The soundtrack, the colors, the whole thing; Just Epic.
Loved this movie! 10/10

Possibly the greatest villain origin story I've ever seen. 😦

This man gets beat down for an hour and 45 minutes. Laughed at, misunderstood, and literally beat. Arthur was lost and you can feel that. This scene wraps it all up. And you can see how happy he finally is. It cost him his life though. Joker has completely taken over, and it's sad, exciting and disturbing all at the same time. EMOTIONS PEOPLE. what a movie.

And that’s where the trouble started...
That smile. That damned smile.

You know this would explain why the Joker always had a damn army on his side despite everything he's done.

The only thing I don’t like about the scene is that after watching it for the first time, the chills you get are never as strong. I wish I could go back in time just to watch this again with a clean slate

The bloody smile is a metaphore for how the joker behaves. He finds happiness in pain.

Hildur Gudnadottir deserves all the credit she gets for this incredible score. One of my highlights of the film

The attention and the spotlight he always craved finally came to him. In a twisted way

In the end, he got what he wanted but became a monster

0:45 how it feels when you’re the quiet kid and say a joke in class and everyone laughs

This scene sums up WHY the film should receive an Oscar.

Compare this scene with the beginning of the film. Arthur forced himself to smile, but it flops back to a frown. Joker within and dormant. This scene he forces the smile again, and it stays. This smile locks Arthur away forever and gone. Joker unleashed. This is who he is, what he is, and there is no turning back.

In a dark and twisted way, this scene is actually pretty wholesome. The main thing Arthur really wanted was to be recognized and not get treated like trash. When he turns around to face the people after giving himself the bloody smile, you can see the tears in his eyes. It’s so awesome that after all of the pain he’s gone through in his life, he finally found happiness... even if what it took to cause that happiness is horrible.

I'm an actor too. I was crying because of Robert de Niros performance in taxi driver. I was crying because Al Pacinos performance in the godfather 2. I was crying because of Tom Hanks performance in Philadelphia. I was crying because of heath ledgers performance in the dark knight. And I was crying because of Joaquin Phoenix performance in joker. It's not just the best movie of the year. It's the best movie in this decade. It's not just the best performance of the year. It's one of the best performances of all time. This movie, the score and this actor deserves every award.

I love how this scene really solidified the metamorphosis of the sad man who finally snapped into the monster with no place to go but down into the deepest depths of Hell. The music absolutely captures the emotion unlike anything I've seen personally. It's a beautiful butterfly emerging from a cacoon but also the underlying realization that he's personified every nightmare Gotham could imagine.
