Bonnie Raitt& John Prine - Angel From Montgomery

I am an old woman
Named after my mother
My old man is another
Child who's grown old

If dreams were thunder
And lightning was desire
This old house would've burned down
A long time ago

Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin'
Is just a hard way to go

When I was a young girl
I had me a cowboy
He wasn't much to look at
Just a free ramblin' man
But that was a long time
And no matter how I tried
The years they just rolled by
Like a broken down dam

Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin'
Is just a hard way to go

There's flies in the kitchen
I can hear them there buzzin'
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today
But how the hell can a person
Go on to work in the morning
Come home in the evening
And have nothing to say

Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin'
Is just a hard way to go

Mankind was created just so we could hear Bonnie and John sing this song. Heaven on Earth.

John's voice was like a smokey whiskey. And Bonnie's voice is like a sunset in July. What a combination.

I sang this song every night to all 3 of my children, when they were babies, while I rocked them to bed. They still remember the song. Just went to a John Prine Tribute last night. RIP to a true poet who sings to everyone’s soul. ✌️❤️

Words cannot describe how sad it is to lose a legend like this. RIP John. I hope you're flying high with that angel.

I'm from Chicago. I've lived in Nola for 35 years. I married a woman from there. We have very good friends in Jerome, AZ.
Whenever we visit them, the first thing we do is pull into The Spirit Room in downtown Jerome, order some drinks, and play this on the jukebox.
We celebrate that we made it one more year, hug, and weep at the beauty of this song. Don't know why, it just seems the right thing to do.
Thank you Very Much John, and Bonnie.

Miss you John. Bought you some wee drinks over the years since the days of Quiet Knight and the Earl of Old Town. First time I seen you I was 16. I’m 67 now. Maybe you can put a good word in for me upstairs? I know we were not always good but you made it to heaven by writing this song.

Amazing that it took Bonnie Raitt so long to be recognized for the great talent that she is. She was out there playing and singing her heart out for years, but didn't hit the big time until relatively late. She's just wonderful.

My dad played guitar, used to be one of his go to songs. Is a huge prine fan. I grew up hearing this word for word.... now, sing along as if I wrote it. Blessed Be, Bonnie and John..

John Prine is a national treasure and a folk poet laureate as important to the Americana musical genre as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon - and I mean no disrespect to those worthies.

I love both of them. I know this is silly but I sing this song to my dogs and they just seem to get mesmerized ! Their eyelids get heavy and they just stare at me in love. It's the darndest thing!!

No one captures the loneliness and desperation of the human condition like John Prine

R.I.P John. I'm 21 but what a beautiful songwriter who's wrote one of the most unbelievable pieces of music ever that I listen to mostly every day. What a sad loss but how lucky are those up there that they get you to perform for them ❤
