This, to me, seems like the last step between the old VR generation and the next one. It's probably fairly good value, but within the next year or maybe two at most there'll be a far more significant leap is my guess. The quest 4 will be the upgrade most people are looking for in comparison to this one. That said, the AR or mixed reality potential and the panacakes are definitely interesting, and the value is there for first time buyers.

The closer the headset comes to your centre of mass the lighter it will feel. The slimming of the HMD was a pretty smart way of making it more comfortable without skimping on the hardware.

One of the biggest selling points for me is not having the tracking rings. On my old Quest 1, I went through two sets of controllers because the rings broke on them. Also the mixed reality capabilities along with 3x performance will be amazing for larger games such as Pavlov Shack.

the cameras being on the remotes, means you don't need to worry about line of sight with the headset for them to remain responsive.

One thing that nobody ever said is how important IPD adjustments are, and that every time you want to "show off" your VR headset, you have to adjust to everyone's IPD. Somebody need to make an automatic IPD adjustment so that it's easier to share VR headsets during party...

The big thing for me is likely the better IPD adjustment. The Quest 2's maximum IPD is below my IPD, so while it's certainly usable, it often makes me feel a bit cross-eyed at times. As a result, I'd strongly prefer something with my actual IPD as an option.

The Pro is dropping in price now and so whilst that is discontinued, there are enough around to make it competition for the Quest 3, for me at least as I just could never justify paying over $1000 for it, but now I see many listed for almost half that. The battery in the back making the front light is a big plus for me as I use my current Quest 2 more for watching media lying down than gaming and from many reviews it seems the pro is ideal for that purpose.

For the Quest 2 there already fitness games that make use of handtracking and AR. That works great. Imagine how it would be on the Quest 3! I hope that one day soon, we don't need to use controllers at all. Just grab the headset and put it on your head.. and you can start! I never anticipated a device so much like the Quest 3. Almost over a year ago when the first leaks came I was eager to get one....
