I agree with you, Joy. I always want to be in a position where I can help those in need: money, food, clothing and more. If we can, we should.

I agree with you to Joy. Our pastor once spoke and said he very much understood what being poor meant. He was raised by parents who were missionaries in Cuba. He said if you’re able then by all means give 10%. If it means you will fall short of paying your bills and not eating then give what you are able. He also said there were other ways you could help like visiting the sick, taking a meal to one recuperating from illness, helping at the church. He also said if you are short but you truly feel God is asking you to give more than you comfortable with then God is probably asking you to step out on faith and God will provide and most times even go above.

God saw the woman's heart. As he sees all our hearts.

I believe that passage refers to the point that if GOD asks us to give it all we should but GOD doesnt ask everyone to give it all.

I love watching your devotionals! Several years ago I had a pastor who lead our Bible study. Our story that day was the wealthy couple who sold property (I think) and gave part of the sale money to the church. They said it was the total amount and were struck dead. "See Jesus commands us to give everything to the church ". I did not agree with him. The couple were probably struck dead because they lied not because they didn't give all the sale proceeds. I am happy to agree with you!

Thanks for your time you are putting into this. I agree with you. Some people do use that scripture to collect more funds for their church or other things. Stay safe Joy and stay well.

I totally agree with you on this! I went to a church once that was that way..of course except the preacher had a new car! He would make me feel like I didn't give enough when I hardly had anything. I stopped giving soo much after my daughter became a single mom and he would try to tell her to give all she had! I told her you give what God feels you too give! I understand the 10% but 10% of nothing is still nothing. Especially if you go without food and the church doesn't have a program to help its congregation.

I think that the scriptures teach us that all we own should be given to God (not the church) in the way that if something happens we trust that God knows how to take care of his things. If someone had an accident with my dad's car, he would say, "it's God's car, he can do what he wants with it" he never stressed out about anything. When he went to the hospital for a heart Cath, they put him in a room and he fell asleep. They found him several hours later. He ended up having 6 bypasses, but he trusted God to care for him as well as his things. Give it ALL to him-not give all away. I think you are interpreting it wrong. We feel that conversely too many preachers think you should be rich as that is gods plan for your life. GIVING 10% is only a guideline. Some should give more and some can only give '2 mites. I know that my parents gave 50c when my dad was only making $5 a week and God blessed them in many ways.

Great scripture! Please do not disagree with it. Let's not miss the point. Neither God nor Jesus wants us to be poor. The woman in the scripture made a huge sacrifice while the others simply gave something they wouldn't miss.
I agree that MANY preachers/churches misused this, and many other scriptures to deceive people.
The woman could have simply held on to her coins to save them up, but she didn't. She trusted God and He rewarded her trust. God is faithful.
We have a responsibility to study the word of God for ourselves so that we are not deceived by preachers and the organised church. Many are being led astray by misleading preachers.
We must study to show ourselves approved....rightly dividing the word of God. 🦋

There are so many different interpretations of the Bible you don't know which one to believe I would much rather believe the Dead Sea Scrolls then the modern interpretations that we have now just saying man writes his own versions of a Bible verse so which one are you to believe

I dont think God doesnt want us to have nice things or wealth. He created all the nice things and the money . I believe it shows the lady's faithfulness and obedience to give even in her hardship. We could easily in our wealth excuse her, should she not give because of her lack. But her love and devotion to God shows her willingness to make a sacrifice because of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for her.
There are plenty of people that have wealth that do not give from a faithful heart but for show. This parable is to show the contrast.

That is just one persons interpretation of the passage. My two translations tell the story a little differently, each open to interpretation. When I studied Bible at my religious college long ago, it was shocking sometimes to read different translations of the original text. Personally, I don’t believe Jesus was saying you must give all. It’s all how you interpret.

I disagree with your interpretation. The KJV has a better translation.
