In the downthrow upsmash combo, captain falcon couldnt have escaped upsmash with di because di doesnt effect moves that dont sent into tumble(moves that make you tech) however, this could be different on lighter characters and, if he had stale moves off in training mode, the move would deal slightly more knockback in a real match if you had not staled the move(fresh move bonus) and might send into tumble and allow di away to escape.
