It's funny just the other day I was thinking yahts are best form of wealth redistribution ever. A wealthy person buys one, uses it like twice a year, then spends huge amounts keeping it running. All that work to build, fuel, and maintain it is done by.... you guessed it, middle class skilled workers.

I worked at one of the boat yards driven out of business by that plan. I had a good job as a Marine Electrician, paid quite well. We were all pink slipped the same day. 34 skilled workers suddenly out of work, every boat yard either laying off or closing entirely. Thousands of good jobs gone. Instead of paying taxes we all ended up on unemployment and food stamps. I lost my home. If you could find work in your field it was at cut rate pay because their were plenty of hungry, talented people and not enough work to go around. Not only did the boat industry suffer but so did everyone who supported us. A lot of small companies that provided everything from lumber to fiberglass to the finishing touches on a yacht. Drove all that business overseas.

Make more of these. It is perfect for my middle and high school students. It's short enough to keep their attention but packed with great discussion material.

This series so far seems to be a repeating lesson that when the government charges more taxes they get less tax revenue due to damage to whatever industry they heaped taxes on and people finding tax loopholes. The best way for the government to make more in tax revenue is to keep the taxes simple and fair like a flat income tax for everyone and flat sales tax in all products while lifting as many superfluous taxes as possible.

Fun fact at 2:15, the visual for the handgun is the Mateba 6 Unica auto-revolver which is an awesome and rare revolver upon which the Chiappa Rhino is based. It’s also very rare and unknown so kind of strange to see it used here. Either the graphics guy is a gun nerd like me or that was the most random pick of all time 😂

Sometimes gerrymandering has major unforeseen circumstances. The Georgia Democratic Party gerrymandered Newt Gingrich out of his district. Newt moved, won his seat back and became the first GOP Speaker of the House in 40 years.
