+50 Max Rage: how to cheese Vengeful Cry for powerful buffs in PoE

TLDW - Rage good. New retaliation warcry gives max rage but it’s not usable by default. However, you can design a character that will deal itself a self-damage guaranteed savage hit with Forbidden Rite, unlocking Vengeful Cry for use any time, at will. It’s then straightforward to get 100% uptime by using warcry duration and CDR and amp up the power of the max rage buff with warcry buff effect.

This video explains and demonstrates new warcry / self-damage tech in Path of Exile that unlocks a huge more damage multiplier for attack builds and Ravenous Passion spell builds. The rage mechanic is explained to show why you should care about almost tripling your maximum rage, then the Vengeful Cry skill is explained in detail. I analyze how characters might build for maintaining 100% uptime on its buff including specific breakpoints that are necessary. I then demonstrate a self-damage technique that can be used to unlock the Vengeful Cry skill for use at any time, circumventing the need to take a savage hit by dealing that savage hit to ourselves manually. I show the chaos mitigation breakpoint needed to enable the tech and close with a demonstration of the technique in use in an endgame build.

Expert Retaliation Support gem (20/20) gives 88% CDR for retaliation skills.

the fact that you present your math sets you in a higher league than other creators, who almost universally tend to just explain what is going on on their recorded footage

Everyone out there spamming essences to craft a piece of gear and this dude is making full equations to optimize one buff, insane

I find this content very appealing, even as a begginer, although I have a hard time understanding some things because I haven't learn build making yet, don't really understand what you mean by lower left side of the tree and things of such but if you ever decide to explain the basics to build making I'll be here watching and learning.

Great content.

loving the video! i league started a Ground slam of earthshattering build with vengeful cry as a focus. i quickly realised the potential of the skill combined with the Berzerker asendancy.

so the idea was that i would play as a berzerker with forbidden jewels allocating siones roar for the infinite warcry power. i wanted to stack as much rage and warcry buff effect as possible.
and use "alot of warcries"

all the passives from skill tree would net you 60 max rage, however i didnt want to travel the passives required to get the 5 max rage and 6% attack speed. so i ended up with;
55 Max Rage.
for warcry buff effect you got 105% available on the skill tree. i had them all. 30% from siones roar. 30% from eldritch chest implicit and 4x8=32% on a lethal pride jewel on duelist.
Total 197% warcry buff effect.

this results in me having 126 max rage with the vengeful cry up.

each rage gives 1% More attack damage,
passives can also grant rage the effect of:
1% increased attack speed per rage.
1% increased armour per rage.
1% Movement speed per 5 Rage.

i scaled those with berzerk (60% more rage effect) also insane uptime due to vengefull cry.
and 50% increased rage effect from asendancy.
total 210%.

126 max rage times 2.1 from rage effect=

264.6% MORE attack damage
264.6% Increased attack speed.
264.6% Increased Armour.
50.4% Increased movement speed.

and thats not taking into account 40%+ life regen from enduring cry which negates the 0.1% degen from each rage and provides decent regen even you deduct the rage degen.
12 exerts from intimidating cry ( guaranteed dubble damage)
Battlemages cry +7% Base crit chance.
70% phys as extra from infernal cry.

Overexertion + echoes of creation for 33% MORE damage for each warcry exerting the attack

6 warcries that exert x 33% = 198% More Damage

TLRD. i love the skill. however as a melee character using fortify, and other sources of damage reduction i found my character to be too squishy for my own liking. i can clear t17 box strat with ease, t16 titanic exiles, and i could do some ubers. with around 1mir investment. again. too squishy for my own liking, but the most dps i have ever had on a character (zoom zoom enjoyer who has never played a bosser build) when i quit this league i had around 280m Dps with Ground slam around 80m Avg hits. (1hitting most stuff in the game) and around 80m Uber dps. (still not enough to compensate for poor survival) i found swapping to volcanic fissure to be better clear and i tried my best to make the character survive but to no avail.

Here is my current POB after huge chages (+ defence, damage)

Doedre's Elixir as another great way to achieve this while also providing you with sustain of all 3 charges
And since the hit is 50% of your maximum life, it lets you squeeze by with up <70% chaos res (or 70% effective DR) and still receive savage hits from it.
Also the baseline minimum of 31 flask charges per use, lines up almost perfectly with a few consistent sources of flask charge generation like Nature's Adrenaline on Pathfinder or a Supreme Ego Impossible Escape can provide you with the 3 mana flask charges/sec from the nearby flask cluster. For relatively low investment for any build.
Though this doesn't solve for the warcry infinite power problem, without committing to the redblade banner still.

Nice and detailed video as always 👍.
I used this tech on my League-Starter build, but went "all-in" on the Warcries instead. It did create a 12 button monster, but with 140 Rage 'Rage Vortex' is both huge and deals a little bit too much damage...

You can quite easily automate the warcry itself too with eternal apple and endurance if hit recently from a cluster, and infinite power flame/flesh from cheiftan. Did this to power a infinite vaal skills build using Hateforge. With full investment into warcry effect you can easily push ~40 rage/s.

Currently working on an automated version of this. The eternal apple, +2 minimum endurance charges + enduring composure small cluster will regenerate 1 endurance charge every second after getting hit for 4 seconds. By adding a weapon with trigger socketed spell when you use a skill every 4 seconds you can just charge/leap slam around and having forbidden rite trigger whilst moving around or attacking/casting spells. This also lets me have 3 warcry buffs such as vengeful cry, enduring cry and infernal cry for massive life regen, free rage and phys as extra fire on a chieftain. Using the rage helmet ravenous passion to make rage apply to spells instead. Currently trying out different phys spells and its kind of cool.

So for those that don't want to invest into Warcries at all and want to use it with Ravenous Passion for more spell damage
- Al Dhih forces cooldown to be 4 seconds.
- More duration support will put you over 4 seconds
- Using the above self-damage method will give you 55 more spell damage for 2 uniques (3 if you want to use Redblade Banner, I feel it's not necessary).

Interesting video and cool use of mechanics.

best use case i can think of is actually just use forbidden rite as main damage and use rage with the new rage helmet that gives spells more damage for rage.

then the only thing you have to solve is damage mitigation for all the forbidden rite self-damage

used this tech in ssf for rage vortex, has battlemages cry automate the forbidden rite self damage and used vengeful cry, was hitting 1m dps on league start

The eternal Apple Loop tech makes uptime easy but solving damage more difficult.

You read my mind on this. I've been trying to work this out semi-successfully. The dream of course is to automate.

A trigger for forbidden rite, eternal apple for warcry with endurance change manipulation. Get minimum end charges to 1 less than max (ring mod or fragility), a source of end charge gen like enduring composure, the anoint, Elixir of the Unbroken Circle. I'm a little confused about where to get the 4 second trigger craft. On wiki it seems to be a veiled craft but I don't have it. The 8 second one, might be ok with enough warcry duration. But I have not got there yet. I am not sure what else could trigger it with anything like the right timing or consistency.

Doedre's Elixir is another way to get the savage hit but not automatable. It should also trigger eternal apple's warcry if you have your min/max/flask end charges correct.

I've been self proc'ing with echoes of creation on my Berserker. My warcry duration is ~10 seconds, so as soon as my endurance charges fall off I can slam, then enduring cry to restore my charges. Of course, in live gameplay I try not to let my buffs fall off but then I'm likely to be taking Savage hits naturally.

Can't use just autoexert generals cry with warcry mastery + 5 rage on warcry. The cool down on GC so low it happens b4 rage loss starts so it maxes out.

ok i can cast FR in hideout and it triggers, and then mid combat I'm struggling to reapply retaliation. Why is that? It's not as consistent as I'd like
