Helene is now responsible for more than 100 deaths in North Carolina, the NC Department of Health and Human Services confirmed on Wednesday.

Wednesday marked a sad day with the death toll reaching beyond 100 for the first time since the data was corrected earlier this month.

More than a month after the storm, officials are still working to determine the exact number of people who died from the storm. With some people still unaccounted for after the storm, officials have been working to determine if those people had perished in the storm or had been found safe and not updated in available data.

The actual number is in the tens of thousands.

Why downplay the numbers? That's disturbing. It is much more and anyone doing this should be ashamed of themselves!! They existed and their lives mattered!! Still praying.

What surprises and baffles me about this is how many people died from this hurricane.
I am also very surprised how Americans can call countries in Central America and the Caribbean third world countries, but yet the death tolls are never this alarming in those countries. Matter of fact some of these countries experience direct hits of category 5 hurricanes and not a single person die and they experience these storms every year. And each year they are stronger and more frequent. Go figure….
