I learned this same lesson about challenging the old man to a fish off. Didn't cost me 1000 bucks, though. Only my dignity.

We went to a pond we both knew well. Both been fishing it for years. We both have our own favorite spots. Not a test of angling, but a straight ripping lips competition. Two rods each. One 3600 series tackle box. Two packs of plastics. Most fish wins. I had my two favorite combos and a box of consistent producers.

Dad tied a drop shot on a 9' cane pole. He proceeded to beat my ass all over the pond with that cane pole. Wasn't even close.
