Programming for Finance | Quant Trading, Algorithmic Trading, Fintech

What programming languages are used in Finance? If you want to be a quant and work on algorithmic trading or in the Fintech arena, the best languages for you to learn are Python, R, C++, C#, or Java. Matlab is seen too. Excel has a programming language within it, VBA. Knowing VBA and how to perform macros in Excel will help whether you decide to pursue a quant role or a financial analyst role since financial modeling is the major focus of your job.

Let's say you want to work in an investment bank and you do not have a 3.99 GPA at an Ivy League School and was never a member of an elite fraternity that at least 5 former US Presidents were in and your uncle is not on the executive board at Goldman Sachs (i.e. you went to a public school with above 3.5 GPA and no connections to an elite bank), where should you consider looking for an internship/entry level analyst job?

I’m stressed about my minor my major is finance and I can’t choose between the difference between accounting and computer science. Because with accounting I can find a job easy but which computer science I’m interested in it since I’m taking a excel class. But I feel like the computer science major can bring down my gpa. Should I do an accounting minor and study programming on my own like python?

I’m currently a sophomore in college pursuing a major in statistics and double minoring in economics and computer science. However I want to get into quant finance algorithms but don’t have any prior knowledge in trading strategies or finance related topics. I’m sure by the time I graduate my statistics degree will get me comfortable with the numbers but form a finance concept standpoint would I be able to succeed with coding knowledge and statistics or do I need to understand finance.
