So much of this show hit home for me. This episode especially, because even up until the early 2000’s, there was no “box” to fill out for “biracial/two or more races”, on standardized tests, etc.

Before one test, I’ll never forget my fourth grade teacher announced to the class that everyone else needed to fill out “white”, and I would put “black”. I was bewildered.

My mom actually came to the school to chew my teacher out, for this. She apologized to me, and I’m sure she never did that to another student again.

I grew up in Guyana where being mixed has created other races. East Indian and Black= a Dougla. Indigenous Indian and Black= a Buffiano/a and such. People like me whose grandparents and great grandparents were all different races were called Cosmopolitans.

I faced these same issues as Bow!

But I'm NOT just one!
That same response from people telling me what I am, rather than listening to or even just acknowledging that I'm LITERALLY standing right in front of them, saying what I am!
Mixed, biracial, half and half, whatever you want to call it, I know what I am!

My daughter is half Indian and half black..but people always mistaking her Spanish 😆

This was an interesting show. If I was biracial I would most likely just refer to myself as half black. No one would be able to argue with that. lol That would clear up any confusions. But I like mixed black too. Not all black people see half black people as black but many of them do. My aunt is full black Jamaican and obsessed with Meagan Markle. Last year she kept telling everyone how happy she was that Prince Harry was marrying a black woman. And Meagan doesnt even look like a light skinned black woman she just looks mixed.

In seventh grade (five years ago) I had to register/update my info and I still only had the option to put either white or black. Not both. Seeing how this is set in the 80s and it’s still an issue now I’d say it’s pretty accurate

This has happened to me and all of my family. I wrote in mixed and my teacher got mad and marked what she wanted. I didn’t think or know I was different until I was showed slave videos. In my family all there was was love. My mom is white and my dad is black

Isn’t it funny how society chooses not to let mixed ppl have their own identity and they are living in their truth but fight to give people 100 different pronouns so they can have their own identity. I’m not against them having whichever pronoun they choose but just pointing out the hypocrisy

Im sad this is the finale. I was so faithful to this show. So glad it had so many episodes though for the season. Aunt D looks much nicer and youthful in that hairstyle. The other ones aged her.
