I'm glad you mentioned stepping back from your painting. Even better, walk away, take a break, then when you return, check out your painting from a distance (as you mentioned)
so many times I end up hyper critical of my work. And I'll notice that I'm standing about a foot from it and see every lil tiny imperfection.
Since my paint station is set up in a corner and I end up standing with my back to the corner (window thing), I don't have much space to step back, so I'll turn my easel towards the door. Allowing me to see it as I come back from a break. Viewing it from across a room, and closer as I get back.
Makes a Huge difference in how I see my work.

Well said enjoy your painting and don't compare. That's how I feel when I paint and I try not to get discouraged. Also I really like your tips very informative.

One of your best (and hilarious) videos to date. I’ve been struggling with a few things recently, including blended gradients, so the white gap idea was a great new thing to try. Thanks again, Ryan!

This video is giving me a flashback to the year 1981, because when a gesso comes along, you must shake it up.

Why does Bob use liquid white when he paints water scenes? Why not titanium white? Thanks. Fantastic channel.

I just made my first really nice (in my opinion) blended painting without a muddy mess! Thank you! And I used a chip brush and a 2 inch house brush from Home Depot (natural bristles of course).

Great tutorial, this is the easiest part of the painting, well at least for me, I taught classes this same technique, most got it right, but as you can imagine, there's always that one kid that just strays away into his own world and does it his way, the result, well, let's just say it resembled a sort of rainbow that looked like it was painted by an elephant, oh the joys of teaching kids to paint 😂

Wild, I love the videos and you inspired me a lot! I’ve done my first painting and one of the main issues I have is how to bend my 1inch BRI brush to do the highlights and trees like bob does, any video with tips on how to bend the bristles to make the bushes that bob does? I applied too much strength and they are mud now 😂

Can you explain why you switch from a 1" to a 2" brush?

Hi Wild!! Can’t thank you enough for these awesome tutorials. Blending can be tricky and difficult. But not impossible! I have a question, but it’s random. Tomorrow (4/8/24) is the solar eclipse, which will be super awesome. I wonder if you would consider painting a solar eclipse??

I KNEW that was where "Magic White" came from. Lol

Seriously though, great vid but the sponsor links during the vid were obstructive on my phone. Just sayin'.
