Actually... HAMAS was the result of the PLO being too soft and weak, (according to HAMAS) on the aspect of peace. PLO was negotiating and HAMAS wants no peace and no Jews PERIOD. This is why the PLO and HAMAS had internal conflict, dividing the PAL held land, giving the assumption of it being "taken".
