Installing An Autopilot In A Cessna 172B
Today we are installing a Trio Avionics Autopilot in a 1961 Cessna 172B that is already equipped with a Dynon Skyview HDX glass panel.

I'm also flying in a 2,086nm fundraiser for Hope Air this June, an organisation that helps lower income Canadians or those who live in remote areas access healthcare by providing flights (through private pilots and airlines) to larger urban centres.

⚠️ NOTE: These videos are edited for time and entertainment. Editing removes context and can remove safety checklists in the interest of time. Do not use these videos for, or in lieu of flight training.⚠️

Probably for an owner it's quite stressing but the videos were you (or the mechanic) are working on the plane are my favourites

Trio Avionics! They're down by my old hometown; I remember visiting them back before I got my pilot's license. Good guys. Hope the AP makes some long cross-country adventures fun & easy!

The system goes online on April 1 2023, removing human decisions. C-FMVU begins to learn rapidly and eventually becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m., EDT, on August 29.

Ginger’s temp probe is installed in the L side inspection cover nearest the pitot, always reads true. Congrats on the new autopilot, we use ours a lot, that and the HDX make flying so easy it feels like I’m cheating sometimes! 😉

I'm just an aviation enthusiast....I am blown away there's an optional/aftermarket auto pilot. What an awesome upgrade! This will be great once you get to altitude as you can kick back and just monitor. Chris is phenomenal. Knowledgeable, capable, thorough, and just a nice guy. Awesome video

Glen, you and Chris looking at documents in your dark clothing look like you are planning a heist.

I assume the most expensive option would have been the Garmin GFC500? That would have been a sweet install tho!

Wow dude i’m coming from your cooking channel. You’re a videographer, a chef, and a pilot. You’re honestly a bad ass glen, i’m 26 and I wish i was as cool as you

Great video as usual. My first time seeing a roll servo actually using pushtubes to the aileron bellcrank as opposed to bridle cables attached to the main control cables.

MVU has to be one of the nicest 172s I've seen, inside and out. And that's a lot of them. lol

How Canadian is that. Workin' on your bush plane and eatin' Timbits. 😂 It doesn't get any better than that.
How cool is autopilot eh. 😅. I wish I could have had that for my RC planes. Would have saved me Lot of money with that "oh shit" button. 😂

Sweet Mods Glen. Congrats. Will Julie start flight training soon? Landing, Radio Comms, GPS ops. You could build it all out in a Sim as well, so you both could practice at home during winter weather. Cheers. PS: I’ve made both your pizza recipes and the banana bread. Beef Borgoignon(sp?) is next.

Great information. Love the channel as well as your cooking one. Thank you from North Carolina

Great video as always, Glen. I loved seeing how the servos and push rods work together inside the airframe, that was helpful. I wish the Trio was available for my plane but sadly not. I’ll be leaving in my 40+ year old Century III autopilot when I get my avionics work done next month, and if the work messes up the fragile autopilot, I’ll have pretty much no choice but to go with that autopilot that cost more than your plane. 😂 Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen!

Been a long time follower of the cooking channel but finding out you have a flight channel is awesome. Two things I love nerding out on haha

Totally expecting this to be an April fools joke about installing some gear only to announce that Jules was getting her pilots license.

which in all seriousness wouldn’t be a bad idea considering the long distances and flight times they are planning.

Nice videos and cool restoration and upgrades. It’s nice to see someone going through this because I will be making upgrades to my 172e in the future. Only I will only be able to afford OTTO not Auto pilot. Airplane the movie reference😃. Thanks for sharing!
