We show how we installed our Raymarine Autopilot (an EV-100 autohelm) and used it as an opportunity to upgrade the boat's network system to Seatalk NG / NMEA-2000 from the old Seatalk-1 system.

You guys are fantastic! My boyfriend and I loved the installation. We also need the box for the monitor and your tip is very welcome. Only concern we would like to share is the fact that the compass can't be around any electronics, and that may include the ACU. Maybe that's what had you guys going in circles?
Anyway, we loved the video and your creative solutions.

Best,

Nykki and Gustavo

You presented the video really well-very concise and told me exactly what I wanted to know!

I've no experience of wheelpilots, all 15 (approximately, never counted properly) of my boats have been tiller, so good to see this video, I'd be happier with an internal linear drive but sure they are very expensive, I'd hope that a boat I'd bought already had one! I keep making mean offers for larger boats, might get a shock one day if an offer is accepted.

A great instructional video ladies you overcame all the issues that there are with the wheel pilot and on a budget! Scanstrut and Dick Turpin have a lot in common! But at least he wore a mask 😁Sail Safe guys. Ant, Cid and the pooch crew.

Great job folks, your tutorial is going to assist with my ev100 kit installation, fair winds and cu around 👀

Hi, thanx for the video. You had troubles with the clutch, and replaced the backplate. Did you also consider turning the steering wheel around ? In my Bavaria it gives more space betwen wheeldrive and pedestal.

The EVO autopilots are smarter than you think. It can follow a route from your plotter, and if there is wind data available it can steer a course relative to the wind direction. Although I use either of them very much, it is possible.

I have all raymarine and am very happy with them however cpt autopilots makes a great wheel pilot for 2, 000.00 thats very strong and durable. If you need to steer in offshore passages for boats up to 40, 000 pounds.

Great job!
Noticed there were a few cables around your flux compass; wonder if you've noticed them cause any deviation. I have a German production boat that has around 20-degree deviation caused by house battery charge current when the engine is running! Also has a friends headphones placed in the wrong place jibe the boat; joys of technology.
Love the video. Many thanks.

Hello ladies you all are great. I enjoyed seeing you all installing your autopilot. I’ll like to talk with you all. How can I reach you?

Thanks for the video. Can you tell me what residual forces you have on the helm when the autopilot clutch is disengaged? I have fitted one, but the wheel forces are much higher than I expected with it disengaged. (I also have yet to see the wheel pilot appear on the P70 within the backbone, so not sure what the deal is there as yet)

Abit late to the party but if a boat is left in one direction for any length of time (on a berth) it can become magnetised by earths magnetic field (especially steel boats ). With a yacht the mast and boom could be affected this however wears off once underway and changing heading . Resulting in slight changes of deviation, so boat may need a quick recalibrating if laid up for a while.
May also settle things down if you move the flux gate compass away from the aft area as lots of metal parts there particularly the rudder post and associated equipment. I think on my boat it is in a locker midships. maybe with your new NMEA 2000 there a suitable place further away. Just my ten peneth worth enjoy the videos fair winds and safe landings all the best ....

how many amps does this typically use in an hour under way?

Hi Ladies, what material did you use for the new backplate for your plotter ?

We fitted a Raymarine Axiom chart plotter, we already had a Raymarine wheel pilot ST4000 on a Seatalk network. The ST4000 seatalk network is connected to the Axiom Seatalkng network via a bridge. The reason i mention all this is that a course set on the chartplotter will be followed by the ST4000 wheelpilot. I would be really surprised if your wheel pilot did not have this functionality, bear in mind our ST4000 is prob 20 years old. I think the wheel pilot used the cross track error messages to steer the course, maybe someone who knows could comment on this.

Thanks for this step by step video. I just installed the same autopilot and now have a question: how did you connect SeaTalk NG backbone to your NMEA 2K backbone. I see there is backbone adapters available. Did you connect at terminal ends? Did you disconnect power feed to one of the two backbones? Thanks and fair winds!
