Conservator Anna Rolls explains how she had to make a key in order to open a 16th Century chest believed to have belonged to Sir Francis Drake.

See the chest in Tudor and Stuart Seafarers, one of four new galleries exploring epic stories of exploration at the National Maritime Museum in London.

The National Maritime Museum is part of Royal Museums Greenwich which also incorporates the Queen's House, the Royal Observatory and Cutty Sark, sharing stories from the sea to the stars.

No treasure but, there was a video camera inside. I’d say that Francis Drake was part of the Pirate Geek Squad.

Just the chest itself is pretty neat looking. If it had once belonged to Sir Francis Drake there probably had been some highly prized treasure inside it at one time that had taken from the Spaniards, who in turn had taken it from some unfortunate tribe in South America somewhere.

It's buriedon Oak Island where Drake buried it. The galleon it was removed from is buried in the swamp.

It would be amazing if you keep publishing more videos about conservation in the new galleries. Conservators made such a great findings while they do just a dust cleaning from an object and when items are being prepared for exhibitions like this one that can show different characteristics of the object. Was really interesting seeing how this conservator made a key that could open this chest.

Ah yes...Because Go-Pro cameras certainly existed back in the 1500s. That's why there's one inside the chest. Don't let the naysayers fool you!!!

There’s no treasure because you got a fake, if that was a real treasure you won’t be the only one in the room
